Oak Class Shines in ‘No Pens Day Wednesday’ Video on The Great Fire of London

At Cavendish View School, the Oak class has been on an exciting journey this term, delving into the rich history of The Great Fire of London. As part of our commitment to innovative learning experiences, we recently celebrated ‘No Pens Day Wednesday’ in a remarkable way – by creating a class video that encapsulated all the knowledge we had gathered about this historic event.

The Journey to Learning

The journey began with our young learners, who spent the initial part of the week brainstorming and writing their sentences, each filled with the fascinating facts and insights they had gathered during their study of The Great Fire of London. These sentences, filled with enthusiasm and curiosity, were destined to become the building blocks of our class script.

As the week progressed, we saw our students come together, piecing together their individual sentences into a cohesive and informative script. It was heartwarming to witness their dedication and teamwork as they collaborated to craft a narrative that would bring the historical events to life.

Then came ‘No Pens Day Wednesday’

A day dedicated to putting down our pens and pencils, and instead, picking up the camera, using our voices as the primary tool for learning and expression. The day was filled with excitement and anticipation as Oak class ventured into the world of filmmaking, ready to share their newfound knowledge with the world.

One of the most remarkable aspects of this project was the progress made by some of the students who had previously struggled with participating and interacting with their peers. These children had, at times, resisted being photographed, let alone appearing on camera. However, this week was different. It was a week of collaboration, mutual support, and overcoming challenges. The students worked tirelessly, not only in front of the camera but also behind it, to ensure that their message about The Great Fire of London would be heard loud and clear.

Proud moment

As educators and supporters of these incredible young minds, we couldn’t be prouder of the journey they’ve undertaken and the progress they’ve made. Their dedication to learning, teamwork, and their willingness to step out of their comfort zones have left an indelible mark on all of us at Cavendish View School.

This ‘No Pens Day Wednesday’ video project stands as a testament to the power of education, the spirit of collaboration, and the boundless potential of our students. We can’t wait to share this remarkable video with the world, and we hope it inspires others to embark on their journeys of learning and growth.
