Welcome to Walton Nurture

Walton Nurture offers an intensive year long interventions based program for children to either prepare to feed into Cavendish View or to transition to their next educational setting. Our current cohort require support around communication and sensory regulation. They also have a diagnosis of Autism and associated conditions.

At Walton Nurture provision we understand that every child is different and unique in their own development. We are so proud to play a part in this journey and look forward to nurturing them to develop their independence and communication skills.

This year is a significant strand in your child’s introduction to education. There is strong emphasis on engaging key professionals to support the implementation of individual programmes. Such as: Sensory circuits, Speech and Language Therapy, Play Therapy and Physiotherapy. We work alongside parents and carer’s to support their understanding of their child’s needs and upskill them in communication strategies such as Makaton, Bucket Therapy and PECs.

The Walton Way

The Walton Nurture team have worked alongside School Improvement Liverpool to design a person-centred curriculum that is bespoke to the provision. This curriculum is structured to support the children to develop independence, communication, health and wellbeing and an understanding of the world around them.

We keep pupil needs at the forefront of all we do and are sensitive to all areas of need. We use the individual EHCP outcomes and curriculum milestones to form the planning and implementation of focussed learning activities.

Progress is shared and celebrated using Class Dojo and Evidence for Learning. We chart progress and achievement termly and share information with parents and carers. The curriculum is engaging and supports the development of enquiring minds. Within Nurture, we focus on building relationships with others and developing a sense of self. The children have time to play daily with a range of toys to build social opportunities and to ensure they are learning the skills to work with others. Developing skills such as tolerance, negotiation, anticipation and shared attention.

An important feature of the Nurture provision is that the pupils feel ‘safe’ and secure. Relationships are developed and maintained based on trust and routine. Opportunities for learning is optimised by ever changing activities and sensory exploration. The environment is capable, stimulating and accessible. Self-direction and independence opportunities are always promoted. This ranges from food choices, activities choice and choosing appropriate clothing for the weather.
